La fin de la vallée s'approche toujours sans jamais arriver
solo piano
6'
2021
Commissioned by Clare Longendyke as part of the "UnRaveled" commissioning project
"La fin de la vallée s'approche toujours sans jamais arriver:" the end of the valley always approaches, but never arrives.
This piece responds to and expands upon the final seven measures of Maurice Ravel's "La Vallée des Cloches," the final movement of his solo piano work Miroirs. I see the piece as a non-linear journey toward an ever-receding vanishing point.
